Instructions

  • Take a small saucepan and warm the milk in it until bubbles begin to appear. Then set it aside to cool.
  • Add some yeast into the warm water and allow it to dissolve. Now add the milk, flour, 4 eggs, cardamom, salt and sugar to form the batter.
  • Continue beating until the batter becomes elastic and smooth. Again add little flour and beat well so that the dough becomes glossy and smooth in appearance.
  • Now add margarine or melted butter and stir well. Then add the remaining flour to make the dough really stiff.
  • Keep the bowl on the surface coated with little flour. Cover this bowl with another inverted bowl and keep it aside for a few minutes.
  • Now knead the dough until it becomes satiny and smooth. Transfer this dough into a greased bowl. Now cover this bowl using a dishtowel.
  • Keep the bowl aside for an hour or until it doubles in size. Punch the dough and allow it to rise once again.
  • Now transfer the dough on to the surface coated with little flour. Then divide it into 3 parts. Make strips of 12” – 16” from each part. Then make a loaf from the 3 strips. With this you should be able to get 3 braided loaves of large size. Now keep these braided loaves over a baking sheet and allow it to rise for at least a few minutes.
  • Use egg wash to brush each loaf. Now sprinkle the loaves with little sugar.
  • Now bake the loaves in an oven that is preset at 205 degrees C for at least half an hour.
  • Serve hot
